Remember when The Simpsons made subtle adult-themed movie references and wasn’t just some crappy cartoon?

I think the show’s journey is worthy of a more nuanced critique, but yes, I remember.

Due to the violence portrayed in the series, and the violence occurring at the time in Japanese schools, the series was briefly canceled and “Mish-Mash Blues” was created. The characters provide a philosophical commentary and it ends with the words: “This Is Not The End. You Will See The Real “Cowboy Bebop” Someday!” 

It serves as a thematic recap of the series up to episode 13.

Is it a coincidence that it has similarities to episode 14 of Evangelion? Which begins with recycled footage to recap and transitions to Rei’s poetic existential thoughts.
